Ron Paul excluded from FOX Forum and debate in New Hampshire
Ron Paul to be Excluded from Next Fox News debate
According to the Associated Press , Fox News will be featuring a forum on January 6th which will include Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson. In an effort to be fair and balanced, Ron Paul who raised more money in a single day than any politician in American history will not be included.
The 90-minute forum will air live beginning at 8 p.m. ET on the Fox News Channel and on Fox News Radio.
"An official at the New Hampshire GOP, which is co-sponsoring the event with Fox, said that Ron Paul might still be included, but the planning for the debate was still coming together and it was ultimately Fox's call."
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Shut out of a GOP presidential candidate forum sponsored by Fox News, Ron Paul staged his own televised town hall meeting today in which he fielded questions from undecided voters two days before the key primary election here.
The Lake Jackson Republican congressman faced a range of questions from the audience of about 100 people in the public access television station several miles from where four other presidential contenders were to later participate in the Fox debate.
Paul responded to one participant who asked why he should chose the libertarian-leaning Texan over more mainstream GOP contenders such as Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee, saying he had been more consistent in his views than his rivals.
Campaign officials have confirmed to us that the Paul campaign is planning a counter-event of the FOX debate in New Hampshire on Sunday night and that details will be released shortly.
Fergus Cullen, chairman of the New Hampshire State Republican Committee, confirmed Sunday evening to the Tribune that, yes, there will be a televised Fox News presidential candidate forum on Jan. 6th, and yes, Rep. Ron Paul was not invited when the other candidates were a week or so ago.
"My understanding is that five candidates to that point had been offered spots but the event is still coming together," Cullen said.
The candidates invited to the forum/debate – whatever you want to call it – will be Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Sen. John McCain, Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. Fred Thompson.
Cullen said the event, which is set to take place two days before the New Hampshire primary, will be held in the afternoon or evening at St. Anselm College in Goffstown, N.H. When asked if Fox News, which is co-sponsoring the debate with the NH party, planned to invite Ron Paul later, Cullen said he didn't know.
"It's really premature. Just the other day candidates started to accept invitations."
On Saturday, Ron Paul called Fox News "scared of me." They "don't want my message to get out, but it will," according to The Boston Globe's Primary Source blog.
"They are propagandists for this war and I challenge them on the notion that they are conservative."
On Sunday night, Ron Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said the campaign remains angry, and in the dark.
"We have not heard anything else today," he said. "[Fox] continues to ignore our calls."
PLAISTOW, N.H. -- Ron Paul said the decision to exclude him from a debate on Fox News Sunday the weekend before the New Hampshire Primary is proof that the network "is scared" of him.
"They are scared of me and don't want my message to get out, but it will," Ron Paul said in an interview at a diner here. "They are propagandists for this war and I challenge them on the notion that they are conservative."
Ron Paul's staff said they are beginning to plan a rally that will take place at the same time the 90-minute debate will air on television. It will be taped at Saint Anselm College in Goffstown.
"They will not win this skirmish," he promised.
The Fox debate occurs less than 24 hours after two back to back Republican and Democratic debates on the same campus sponsored by ABC News, WMUR-TV and the social networking website Facebook.
Ron Paul, the Republican Texas Congressman, was wrapping up his final day of campaigning in New Hampshire until the Iowa Caucuses on Thursday.
He spent much of the day campaigning at diners in Manchester and Plaistow and downtown walks in Derry and Exeter.
